As a design agency, we take our social responsibility seriously. We have supported causes such as youth, design and entrepreneurship for many years through our work with Young Entrepreneurship and the Emergence School of Leadership. Last year, we expanded our partnership with Westerdals School of Communication to work more closely with them to supplement the courses they offer. In the autumn of 2017, Design Container facilitated a module for design students at Westerdals and developed its own internship programme.
The module aimed at the Westerdals students forms an integral part of their course. The objective is to examine the possibilities offered by digital design, graphic design and technology. During this eight-week module, students were asked to develop and design a concept according to a very specific brief. Throughout the eight weeks, we worked closely with the students and arranged both mini lectures and workshops at our offices. With students from five different countries from South Korea to France, we were able to approach all our subjects from a wide range of perspectives.
“It’s important for us as an agency to know what’s happening at grassroots level. At the same time, we want to be able to contribute by promoting young talent and giving them the chance to work with our clients and real projects,” says Managing Director Linn-Cecilie Linnemann.
In the autumn of 2017, Design Container developed its own internship programme. After a detailed recruitment process, we decided to take on Malin Persson from Sweden who is in the final year of her Visual Communication course at the University College of Southeast Norway.
“I remember when I had to find my first internship back when I was a student in Copenhagen. It was difficult as many agencies didn’t take the time to employ an intern. I remember that I thought this was a strange approach as everyone has to start somewhere and I believe that we, the agencies, have a responsibility to help young designers get going,” concludes Michael.
Our internship programme is set to continue. The next round of recruitment will be this spring. Watch this space if you are interested in applying in future.
